In 1973, Governor Edmund G. “Pat” Brown founded CCEEB to bring together the perspectives of labor and business in pursuit of balanced and effective policy solutions.  From its beginning, CCEEB has tackled the toughest environmental problems facing California, including water quality, transportation, energy, air quality, hazardous waste and land use.

Since that time, CCEEB has expanded both its focus and its scope.  Issues like education, climate change, regional planning and environmental justice have been added to our agenda, and new voices, like those of leading environmentalists and government regulators, have found a place in our dialogue.

The CCEEB Board of Directors reflects our spirit of collaboration.  The 60-member board is split evenly among each of the council’s three core constituencies: business, organized labor, and public leaders. The board sets our mission and principles, approves new programs, provides policy guidance and determines positions on statewide ballot initiatives, and ensures the financial viability of the organization.

Because of our history of credibility, fairness and excellence, no other association enjoys the same broad spectrum of members.  CCEEB is a not-for-profit and nonpartisan association.  Our reputation rests on our ideas; CCEEB does not make political contributions of any kind.

  • "Governor Brown reached out to business leaders, to labor leaders, environmentalists, public leaders and community leaders…everybody.  Everyone is included.  He challenged all Californians: Can we have economic growth and a better environment? Of course, he said: We can and we must.  For, in reality, we cannot divide and segregate economic and environmental issues."
    Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger
  • "CCEEB is the only ongoing forum in the state where organized labor and business can come together to share information, work to coordinate positions and develop a common agenda. The result is a powerful coalition that can move the California economy forward in an environmentally responsible manner.”
Jose Mejia, CCEEB Vice Chair and Director of the California State Council of Laborers
  • “CCEEB provides extraordinary services and great value to us and our clients. In these difficult economic times, CCEEB excels in addressing California’s economic, environmental and fiscal problems efficiently as well as effectively. CCEEB has an unmatched 40 year record of achieving bottom-line, enduring results.”
    Michael Barr, Partner, Pillsbury
  • “CCEEB is a great place to meet other thought leaders, and not just elected or appointed officials. You get to know people from other industries who work on similar issues and people from non-profits who are advancing very new and very different ideas.”
Bob Antonoplis, Vice President and Counsel, The Walt Disney Company
